Best Time to Visit Jaipur

Weather, crowds and cost for Jaipur, broken down by season so you can pick the right month rather than the cheapest flight.

Short answer

The best time to visit Jaipur is November to February. Days sit in the low twenties, evenings need a light jacket, and fort climbs are comfortable rather than punishing.

Season by season

Winter

Peak season. Clear skies, cool mornings around eight degrees in January, and busy forts. Hotel rates are at their highest between Christmas and mid-January, and the Jaipur Literature Festival fills the city for several days.

Summer

April to June crosses forty-two degrees regularly. Sightseeing is limited to early morning and after five, but hotel rates fall by half and the forts are near empty.

Monsoon

July to September brings short heavy showers and the Aravalli hills turn green. Humidity is high, crowds are thin, and Teej in the monsoon is one of the best processions in the city.

Month-by-month notes

  • November - arguably the single best month: clear, mild, post-monsoon greenery still holding.
  • January - coldest mornings and thick fog risk on the Delhi road and rail line.
  • March - pleasant until mid-month, when the heat begins in earnest; Holi falls here.
  • May and June - avoid unless heat tolerant; carry far more water than feels necessary.

Festival and crowd calendar

Diwali week and the last week of December are the busiest and most expensive. Book two to four weeks ahead for those dates.

What to pack

Layers in winter, since mornings are cold and afternoons warm. In summer, light cotton, a hat and electrolyte sachets.

Common questions

Is Jaipur too hot in April?

It is manageable for early morning sightseeing but uncomfortable by eleven.

Does it rain much in Jaipur?

Around six hundred millimetres a year, concentrated in July and August, and rarely enough to cancel plans.
