Best Time to Visit Goa
Weather, crowds and cost for Goa, broken down by season so you can pick the right month rather than the cheapest flight.
Short answer
The best time to visit Goa is mid-November to February. Dry, sunny and warm, with the full run of beach shacks and markets open.
Season by season
Winter
The full season. Shacks are built for the year, the sea is calm, and prices climb steadily to a peak between Christmas and New Year, when north Goa is essentially a festival.
Summer
March to May is hot and humid, around thirty-three degrees with high moisture. Beaches are quiet and discounts are deep, but many shacks begin dismantling by late April.
Monsoon
June to September is green and dramatic, with rough seas and a swimming ban on most beaches. Many shacks close entirely, the interior waterfalls run full, and rates fall to their lowest.
Month-by-month notes
- November - season opens, shacks reopen, prices still reasonable.
- December - peak, and the last fortnight is expensive everywhere.
- February - warm, calm, and Goa Carnival falls here.
- July - heavy rain, closed beach shacks, cheapest villas of the year.
Festival and crowd calendar
North Goa around Baga and Calangute is busiest; south Goa stays calmer through the same weeks. New Year requires booking months ahead.
What to pack
Beachwear plus one set of modest clothing for churches and temples, reef-safe sunscreen, and a rain shell in the shoulder months.
